Manila Bulletin Melpha Abello’s article “A housing material made from chicken feathers,” was adjudged Agriculture Story of the Year. Abello wrote about a forestry expert who “has found that chicken feathers can be recycled into a low-cost, lightweight and decay-resistant composite panel for use as building material for housing and construction.”

Manila Bulletin Agriculture Editor Zac Sarian’s “Something new inVirginia tobacco” was named Tobacco Story of the Year. He reported on the innovative technologies as well as new varieties of tobacco to sustain the industry

Bandera/Philippine Inquirer’s Edgardo B. Espiritu won the Agriculture Photo of the Year. Entitled “Spice Scarecrow,” the image shows a female farmer tending an onion garden. But what set it apart from the other entries was that Espiritu was able to capture the unexpected influx of birds that swept down on the field.

Andy Zapata of the Philippine Star was selected the Tobacco Photo of the Year for his “Ämong The Best” entry. It depicts a farmer inside a curing barn, checking on the quality of his yield.
